Le 18 Fold tourne sur XRing O3, la troisième génération de processeur conçu par Xiaomi lui-même, à la place d'un Snapdragon de Qualcomm ou d'un Dimensity de MediaTek. Sur le papier, la fiche annoncée par le constructeur est agressive : dix cœurs CPU, tous « gros », un GPU maison dit G2-Ultra NX avec huit accélérateurs neuronaux intégrés, un NPU annoncé à 200 TOPS, et surtout la première prise en charge de la mémoire LPDDR6, avec 113,8 Go/s de bande passante. Xiaomi revendique plus de 5,2 millions de points sur AnTuTu et une consommation GPU réduite de 64 %. Ce sont des chiffres du fabricant, à vérifier sur table, mais le message, lui, est clair : après Apple, Samsung, Huawei et Google, Xiaomi fait partie des rares grands à faire tourner ses téléphones haut de gamme sur son propre silicium. Pour un constructeur chinois, c'est aussi une réponse aux restrictions américaines sur les composants. Aucune date européenne, aucun tarif en euros, et le précédent n'est pas encourageant : le MIX Fold 4, en 2024, n'est jamais sorti officiellement chez nous. Mais deux choses ont changé. Le stand de l'IFA, d'abord : on ne montre pas un téléphone sous vitrine à Berlin, devant la presse européenne, si on n'a aucune intention de le vendre en Europe. La puce, ensuite : XRing O3 étant maison, Xiaomi n'a plus à négocier des volumes de Snapdragon pour chaque marché. Si le 18 Fold arrive en France, ce sera face au Galaxy Z Fold 8 et, sans doute, à un iPhone pliable dont le prix devrait dépasser les 2 000 euros si les rumeurs disent vrai.
