You wait forty minutes at Bandai Namco's gamescom booth to get your hands on Elden Ring in handheld mode. The console heats up, the Lands Between renders as pixel soup, the framerate hiccups with every sword swing, and you leave the demo wondering how a port announced with fanfare at April's Direct could reach the public in that state. One year later, the same game returns with a date carved in stone: on August 28, 2026, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition finally launches on Switch 2. In summer 2025, previews of the Switch 2 version turned into a public disaster: unstable framerate, blurry resolution, late-loading textures. The world's gaming press left Cologne with the same verdict, and FromSoftware made a decision rare among Japanese publishers: rather than shipping a broken game for the holidays, the studio pushed the Tarnished Edition to 2026, with no new date. In spring 2026, FromSoftware engineers publicly described a transformed port, and reports relayed by VGC now describe a version reportedly targeting near-native 1080p in handheld mode, with a finally stable 30fps. Nothing like the Cologne demo. The studio clearly used the delay to rework optimization in depth rather than patching over cracks. Nintendo's console is methodically catching up on a generation of games that had escaped it, and publishers are following: ten days ago we covered Xenoblade Chronicles 2 reborn in 4K and 60fps on the machine, and the AAA port catalog grows every month. For FromSoftware, it is also a first: Elden Ring had never run on Nintendo hardware. A complete souls-like, DLC included, on the train or on the couch, is a selling point even PS5 owners will eye sideways."}},{"type":"paragraph","text":{"fr":"Prochain rendez-vous : le 25 août, trois jours avant la sortie, la gamescom Opening Night Live ouvre ses portes à Cologne.
